WELCOME
Tomato Mouse Gallery, New York, NY
May 29 - June 27, 2021
Excerpt from press release:

The danger of welcome and comfort are implicit in the domestic setting.  If a home is four walls Ronan Day-Lewis’ Familiar Memories Which Aren't Yours has three, more or less, like walking onto a stage or into a dollhouse.  His recollections form an altarpiece to the Fall; Innocence, Rebellion, Exile.  Home is a setup, and object lesson that civilizes, but it’s clear that the beginning contains the end.  Nature invades the home in the form of snakes, grass, all of these objects upholstered in incongruous domestic fabrics.

More writing from curator Rebecca Bird:

There is a powerful tie between the mythological and the pastoral in Ronan Day-Lewis's installation "Familiar Memories Which Aren't Yours". It's as if the Garden of Eden were every garden, and every spring the beginning of the world.
